The Whitehall Wolves are coming off a disappointing season last year. The Wolves finished third in the CRBL South last year with a 15-7 record. They lost 5 one-run ball games in the league. They also lost in the second round of the WBA playoffs. The Wolves look to improve on their timely hitting and cut down on strikeouts for the 2018 campaign. The Wolves will once again rely on pitching and defense as their strength. The pitching staff will once again be led by the strong arms of our veterans Alex Byom, Scott Hovell, Zack Pronschinske, and Collin Manley. Our younger pitchers like Blake Thiesse and Jon Ciemenski will need to prove that they can get good CRBL hitters out. They will need to do this again in the always tough Southern Division of the CRBL.
The defense behind these pitchers is led by our veteran shortstop Scott Hovell when he is not pitching. Long-time shortstop Tyler Manley is doing his residency for medical school and will not be available this summer. Third base time will be shared by Nate Pronschinske and Kyle Servais. Our right side of the infield is led by Alex Petroski at second base and Brad Schank at first base. Zack Pronshinske will also play first base when he is not pitching. Payton Slaby and Sam Hirschbaeck provide the needed depth in the infield as they can play multiple positions on the infield. The Wolves speedy outfield is led by centerfielder Trent VonDrasek. In right field we have the strong arm and speed of Sam Schweisthal that keeps many balls from dropping to the outfield grass. The always steady Drew Pronschinnske is in left field. Jon Cieminski and Carter Halverson will also provide depth in the outfield. Max Ferguson handles the catching duties and is a big part of holding down opposing team’s running game. We are looking for upstart catcher Devin Zonick-Greenwold to get innings at this crucial spot also.
You have to score runs to win titles as well and in the offensive department the Wolves are led by Scott Hovell, Kyle Servais, Max Ferguson, Alex Byom, Trent Vondrasek, Nate Pronschinske, Sam Schweisthal, and Zak Pronschinske. The Wolves will be playing a tough 30 game schedule this year so all players on the roster will have opportunities to contribute.
The Whitehall Wolves would like to thank our sponsor Dave Pientok of Tri-City Sanitation, and the entire Whitehall community for their support of Wolves baseball. We would also like to thank Tom and Connie from Newcomb Valley Inn for hosting and supporting our annual fundraiser each year. Finally, we would like to thank Marty Little and Butch Halama for the tremendous coverage of Wolves’ baseball. These guys cover nearly every Wolves’ game no matter where we play. The Whitehall Wolves also have the honor of hosting the 2018 CRBL All-Star game this year in Whitehall. The game will be Sunday, July 1st at 12:30. We hope to see you at the park this summer for some exciting Chippewa River Baseball League games.
