In 2017 the Augusta Athletics hung tough into the second half of the season, hovering around the .500 mark, before finishing with a 6-16 C.R.B.L. record. The A’s finished sixth in the tough South Division, but were tied for eight overall in the league standings and their “win-points” easily separated them from the loop’s other 6-16 teams.
The Athletics were led by Pitcher/Third Baseman James Gilbertson. James was chosen to play in his seventh All-Star Game and was named All-C.R.B.L. for the second straight season. Matthew Gilbertson was named a starter in the All-Star Game, while playing in his fourth, and was selected Honorable Mention All-C.R.B.L.. And Zac LaGow was nominated for the C.R.B.L.’s “Rookie of the Year” Award after an outstanding first year with the club.
In addition to those three, the A’s return a number of players who both have experience in the league, yet are under the age of twenty-five! Peyton Bethke, J.J. Breaker, Isaiah Gilbertson, Mitchell Hong, Quinn Kirchoff, Kayne Korger, Josh LaGow and Trenton Meyer will comprise the nucleus of an improving franchise. And look for veterans Chris Budd and Jake Krueger to continue to build on their hall-of-fame worthy resumes.
We hope you’ll join us for another entertaining season of baseball at Jan Krueger Diamond at Memorial Field in Augusta!
